Going Virtual for COVID-19

 

While we have suspended in-person services and events due to COVID-19, the University Career Center is OPEN!!! Career coaches are available for appointments via phone or virtually using Zoom or Skype for Business. Additionally, we are working hard to provide digital content related to our scheduled events as well as resources and tools that will keep you moving towards your career goals during this time.

Services

 

 

Career Coaching Appointments  

Career Coaches are available to meet with you virtually or via telephone. Head to HireJayhawks.com or call 785-864-3624 to schedule a 30-minute (answers to specific questions) or a 60-minute (in-depth career planning or answers to vague questions) appointment now. Not sure the length of the appointment you need? Start with a 30-minute appointment and we’ll take it from there. You will receive an email confirmation and another email that provides you with instructions for connecting with your career coach. 

Drop-In hours 

We are suspending drop-in hours temporarily. In the meantime, you may schedule a 30-minute appointment or head to our on-line chat feature at career.ku.edu. The chat is staffed from 8:30a-4:30p Monday- Friday. 

Mock Interviews 

 

Students have options surrounding mock interviews. HireJayhawks.com has a mock interview tools where you can select from dozens of interviews specific to your career aspirations. This tool provides the ability of recording and reviewing your interview. Or, you can schedule a virtual mock interview with one of our career coaches at HireJayhawks.com. 

 

Resume Reviews 

 

If you need help starting your resume, we recommend you complete the modules in JayhawkReady and check out this guide. You may submit your resume to our resume dropbox to be reviewed by a career coach. You can also discuss your resume and other documents during the virtual coaching options mentioned above. 

Events

The University Career Center will not be holding any in-person events for the remainder of the semester. We are delivering the content from these events in a variety of ways.

This event may have been postponed, but we know there’s lots of information you were hoping to gain! We’ve put together multiple video presentations that will help you navigate your pre-health experience! Content will be added here throughout the month of April. 

 

Beyond KU: Social Justice (Video Panel)

Interested in learning more about a career in Social Justice? Our panelists will discus what a job in the field of Social Justice is like. Panelists include the Mayor of Lawrence, Director of the Kansas ACLU, and many more. Check out the 2019-2020 event here as well as our past Beyond KU events.

Jobs and Internships

Students 

 

If you are currently participating in an internship or plan to participate in one in the near future, it is important to keep in mind that KU’s policies do not reflect the policies of the company that is hosting you. Please make sure to maintain communication with your internship supervisor about any changes to their operations and/or to your circumstances that may affect your work as an intern. Talk to your internship supervisor if you have any questions or concerns about the safety of the work environment and about the possibility of working remotely. 

 

If you are receiving departmental academic credit for your internship, please direct questions concerning these credits to the department/program that is awarding them. If you are enrolled in LA&S 490, please direct questions to your instructor, Melissa Johnson.

Employers 

 

Please keep in contact with your interns about your company’s plans and policies regarding COVID-19. In order to protect the health of our students and your employees, we ask you to consider allowing interns to work remotely. Students are being urged to contact the KU unit coordinating the internship if they are unable to complete internship requirements at this time.  Health and safety are our main priorities.
